It’s our big 4-OH and we want to celebrate by giving away tins of our special anniversary confetti coffeecakes. Winning is simple: Now thru the end of May, check the last two digits of your guest check during your next visit to any location except Cupertino. If the number ends in “40”, you’ve won yourself a scrumptious coffeecake to share with your family or co-workers. Join us soon to see if you’re a winner!

Readers of Metro Silicon Valley sure love Hobee’s! We’re all over the “Best of Silicon Valley 2014” issue, with all six of our restaurants reaping honors. Here’s the tally: winner, Peninsula Best Breakfast; winner, Central Silicon Valley Best Breakfast and second place, Best American Restaurant; and third place, Best San Jose and South County Breakfast. Thanks for your votes!
Awards season isn’t just for Hollywood stars. The Hobee’s Achievement Awards are handed out in the early part of each year to our best and brightest employees. So far, we’ve handed out some biggies: 2013 Outstanding General Manager honors went to Sergio Gutierrez from Hobee’s Mountain View (pictured) and Sunnyvale’s Roque Marin won Outstanding Kitchen Manager for the second year in a row. In addition, the Highest Secret Shopper score was a tie between Hobee’s Palo Alto and Hobee’s Mountain View. Finally, Highest Annual Sales honors went to Hobee’s Montague (2 Meal Periods) and Hobee’s Sunnyvale (3 Meal Periods). We still have lots more hardware to give out, including Customer Hall of Fame selections. Stay tuned!
Some may consider it middle-aged, but we think 40 is fun and fabulous! We’re so excited to be celebrating our milestone 40th year serving the Best Darn Breakfast in Silicon Valley in 2014. It all started back in 1974 at the site of an old Dairy Belle in Mountain View. The restaurant was about a third of its present-day size and meals were served out of a takeout window. (We think the accompanying photo from the Mountain View High yearbook is from 1975.) Do you have any memories of the “old days”? We’d love to hear from our original customers and employees!
As part of our 40th anniversary this year, we decided to kick things off by revamping our popular web site. (How old was the old site? Let’s just say that we merited several articles in the local press just for entering cyberspace.) Thoughtfully developed by Jaime Merz from The Point Collective, our new site is fresh, intuitive and provides lots of opportunities for us to interact with our customers.
We hope you like what you see! Onward!
We are sorry to let you know that we will be closing Hobee’s Pruneyard after the Holiday Season. Our last day of business will be Sunday, January 5, 2014.
While we have remained a popular draw for the past 15 years, our option to renew our lease brought the prospect of a doubled rent. We would not be able to absorb such a substantial hike and maintain our modest, family-friendly prices. The large size of Hobee’s Pruneyard – 6500 square feet – poses a particular challenge since our rent is based on square footage.
Our immediate concern is for the welfare and continued employment of our loyal crew. We will be working closely with each individual crewmember to determine if they are able to transfer to one of Hobee’s six other locations, or if they are interested in employment with one of our industry colleagues at The Pruneyard.
We are extremely proud of what Hobee’s Pruneyard accomplished over the years. The restaurant gained the loyalty of many regular customers and won some terrific honors, including scores of Best Breakfast citations and the 2009 Business of the Year Award from the Campbell Chamber of Commerce. Hobee’s Pruneyard was also a consistent supporter of hundreds of area schools, non-profits and civic groups.
Please be assured that we are actively scouting possible replacement locations in the Campbell area. As noted, we prefer a smaller footprint (about 3500 square feet). Feel free to e-mail us at email@example.com with any real estate suggestions you may have.
Finally, though we also closed our Los Gatos and Stanford locations this year due to similar rent concerns, these closures belie an otherwise successful and exciting year, during which our remaining locations posted sizable sales gains and Vice President Biden made a well-publicized trip to Hobee’s Sunnyvale in June. Moving forward, we’re particularly excited about marking our milestone 40th anniversary in 2014. We hope that you will continue your Hobee’s habit at the following South Bay sites starting January 6: Hobee’s San Jose (680 River Oaks Parkway @ Montague); Hobee’s Cupertino at The Oaks Shopping Center, and Hobee’s Sunnyvale (800 Ahwanee Ave. @ Mathilda and 101).
It was a sincere privilege being a part of the Campbell community these past fifteen years. THANK YOU to all of the Pruneyard customers who became a part of our family!
Since we owe so much to the movers and shakers of Silicon Valley, the least we can do is supply them with Wi Fi. Enjoy unlimited, unrestricted wireless hook up at any Hobee’s location. Surf on our turf!
